?The season of Christmas is essentially one which makes heavy demands on the purse, and that much used article is then most of all liable to show signs of exhaustion.? Such a statement ? which I came across while reading a book entitled Christmas Past: A Selection from Victorian Magazines compiled by Dulcie M. Ashdown ? was written over a century ago but still holds true today.
Although I am in no hurry for my daughter to grow up, I am looking forward to making crafts with her, especially during the holidays. I fondly remember making fun crafts such as toy soldiers from toilet paper rolls and yarn doll ornaments from scraps of yarn as a kid. I am so looking forward to making similar fun crafts with my daughter during Christmastime when she gets a little older.
The Victorians, too, made Christmas gifts at home from scraps found around the house. Did your friend like to write? Then make a pencil case out of bits of cardboard.
