Editors' Neighborhood Guides | New York - DailyCandy

friday night highlights!

Believe it or not, we don?t live at DailyCandy headquarters. Here?s how five of our editors kick off the weekend.

Crown Heights/Prospect Heights
Tiffany Davis, Everywhere editor
Warm-Up: With the front burger joint, back beer garden, firehouse bar space, and casual cocktail bar, happy hour standard Franklin Park is four stops in one.
Main Course: Teensy Jamaican dining attic De Islands is the curry-est, coziest way to fake a Caribbean sojourn. It?s BYOB, so visit boutique wine seller Wino(t) beforehand.
Next Level: Cocktails at The Crown Inn and a midnight (second) dinner of bulgogi on rye and house-brined pickle pots from Black Tree sandwich shop tucked in back.

Cobble Hill
Lauren Berger, senior editor
Warm-Up: Score a picnic table at 61 Local for hyperlocal brews and shared honey ricotta toast with pistachio dust. Make a mental note to return in the a.m. for cinnamon tea and Bien Cuit pastries.
Main Course: Follow the brownstone lights all the way to Spanish tapas joint La Vara. Only have time for a quickie? Hanco?s classic pork banh mi is a steal at $6.
Next Level: The snug Sample (152 Smith St.; 718-643-6622) eases up once (a worthy) happy hour ends. Dessert nuts should know The Chocolate Room?s best-kept secret is a cup of mint chip ice cream.

Fort Greene
Jay Blades, managing editor
Warm-Up: Put your name in at tiny newbie Lulu & Po then walk two blocks south to Walter?s. Sit at the bar; order a Diablo and a dozen oysters (or spoil your appetite with artichoke dip and steamed duck buns).
Main Course: Lulu & Po plays into the whole local, seasonal, small-plates shtick, but you can?t knock deep-fried anchovies, bone marrow tacos, or hearty house-brined pork chop with seasonal chutney.
Next Level: Dick & Jane?s may look like your typical speakeasy (unmarked door, tin ceiling), but it?s surprisingly unpretentious. It?s the only area bar that can make a Penicillin (blended Scotch, ginger, honey, and lemon), though rumor has it the other drinks are quite tasty.

Park Slope
Emily Warman, social media editor
Warm-Up: Half-price wine and apps (try the fried lamb and sage sausage) make for a very happy hour at Terroir. You?re supposed to get free sherry, so ask for it.
Main Course: If you?re balling, Al Di L? or Talde. If you?re thrifty, Peruvian joint Coco Roco for the $14 roast chicken (it feeds three).
Next Level: Check The Bell House show schedule or get down at Blueprint with Smoky Mary?s (chipotle tequila, lime, agave). For better or worse, swing by Pork Slope and/or High Dive for a nightcap.

West Village
Jordan Blumberg, New York editor
Warm-Up: Powwow about forthcoming antics and stain your lips red at Aria Wine Bar. Or shuck it and fill up on oysters and a split plate of lobster spaghetti at Jeffrey?s.
Main Course: Get on the list at Red Farm; temper the wait next door at Swine; return and inhale dumplings on dumplings on whatever special is happening.
Next Level: Channel competitive energy with beer pong and a Britney sound track at Pieces Bar. It?s cash only, but beer is cheap and there?s an ATM that dispenses nothing but $10 bills.
