Quite simply, if you are not using a blog for your internet business then you are missing out on a very effective method not only to increase its reach across the internet, but also as a means of communicating and interacting with your target market. The search engines love them, those seeking information love them and when used properly, a blog is a lucrative piece of internet real estate.
If you have a traditional website then there is also a need to have a blog to compliment this. Yet many who do start up a blog are prone to quickly neglect it and are of the opinion that it was a waste of time. As with everything on the internet, there is a right and a wrong way to manage a blog. Even small adjustments to what you are currently doing can have a major change in the fortunes of your blog and the contribution it makes to growing your internet business.
The first question to ask is how many blog posts do you publish per week? Blogs are meant to be dynamic parts of an internet business. That means they should be a focal point of activity with content added on a regular basis. There is no right or wrong answer for determining how many posts should be published as it should depend how dynamic your niche market is. It may be beneficial to post once or twice per day for some blogs and less often for others. As a golden rule, when the blog is in its infancy, you should target daily postings and when established, ensure that you are posting at least three times per week. As search engines love them, they should be updated with valuable, fresh and unique content.
Each post should be centred on a single topic and should feature just one keyword or phrase. This is important to ensure that the post is indexed in the search engines exactly where you wish it to show. By concentrating the content around one keyword or phrase, the post will have a better chance of being seen in the search engines and picked up by other blogs and websites that are seeking unique content based upon such search terms.
A blog should not take the form of one long procession of postings that are no more than promotional messages for a product or service that you are offering. There is nothing wrong with this but it is just the methods you adopt to achieve it. The product is the solution to a problem so what you should write blog postings for is to raise awareness of the problem, comment on the challenges, provide some basic help in overcoming the problem and review products that can offer a solution. Your blog should provide a wealth of information to help the reader start on their road to furthering their interest in the subject, providing help information and also offering solutions.
If you are finding that you blog is not working for your internet business in terms of the traffic it generates, the amount of comments visitors leave and the amount off sales it ultimately generates then undertake these simple solutions and you should find a marked difference to its performance in a short period of time.
