The Sun Devils will see Jamal Miles, Cameron Marshall, Andrew Sampson and several other offensive players graduate at the end of the year.
While the Sun Devils do not have a large senior class in 2012, they do lose several key contributors at season's end. We'll cover the defense tomorrow, but today we celebrate the offensive seniors of Arizona State.
All told, ASU is graduating three wide receivers, two running backs (James Morrison is now technically listed as a defensive end, but has long been on the depth chart on offense) and three offensive linemen.
Without further ado, your 2012 graduating class.
Jamal Miles, WR
Miles is a player that has had a very strong career at Arizona State. While his production in 2012 has dropped off precipitously, Miles previously scored 16 touchdowns in his first three years as a Sun Devil, including four kick/punt returns.
Miles was responsible for one of the best plays on our 100 Day Sun Devil Countdown to Kickoff, throwing a touchdown pass to Aaron Pflugrad against Missouri in 2011.
The senior wide receiver, suspended for the MAACO Bowl Las Vegas and for the season opener against Northern Arizona, has not been the same since. Despite a career high of 60 catches in 2011, Miles' role has diminished and he has only caught 25 balls this year. Regardless of his recent play, Miles remains one of the most decorated Devils in the past 10 years.
Career longs: 99-yard kickoff return in 2010, 78-yard punt return in 2011, 41-yard reception in 2012, 54-yard pass in 2010.
Cameron Marshall, RB
Marshall is another senior who has had a marvelous career at Arizona State. While the senior campaign has lagged behind his standards, Marshall's junior season was a revelation. The back out of San Jose ran for 1,050 yards and 18 touchdowns in 2011, tying the ASU record for rushing touchdowns in a season with Woody Green and Terry Battle.
With D.J. Foster and Marion Grice also receiving ample playing time this year, Marshall has seen his production dip in what was supposed to be his breakout season. Still, at 4.4 yards per carry, his yearly average is in line with his historical output, even if he's only taken 64 handoffs in 2012.
His usage has been underwhelming by the new coaching staff, but much like Miles, he will be remembered for more than just his senior campaign.
Andrew Sampson, OL
Previously a stable presence on the ASU offensive line, Sampson was suffered an ankle injury in 2012 that kept him out of games against UCLA, Oregon State and USC. He is expected to return for senior day against Washington State, and he will help solidify a line that has been torn apart by defenses in recent games.
A captain of the team, Sampson is known for his intensity. A player with his level of passion can be a success at the next level, but he must continue to work as hard as possible to reach the NFL.
Brice Schwab, OL
Schwab has started all ten games this year, making a strong return to the field after redshirting in 2011. Now in better shape physically, Schwab has been a consistent factor on the line for Todd Graham.
Rashad Ross, WR
Ross is known as a speedster, and the two-year ASU player has made his mark in a short period of time. He set a career high with seven receptions against Colorado this October, while his career high of 108 yards was set against California in 2011.
While not a tall receiver by any stretch, his speed sets him apart from the rest of the Sun Devil depth chart.
Kyle Johnson, OL
Another senior offensive lineman, but Johnson does not see much consistent action. He has played in nine games in 2012 and will likely see a slightly enlarged role for his senior day.
A.J. Pickens, WR
Pickens earned a start against Northern Arizona, but has not seen the field since for the Devils in 2012.
He had a career year in 2011, catching 12 balls for 140 yards and two touchdowns.
